🗓️ March 2021 – A Neighborhood Lockdown Walk

Another period of lockdown persists, prompting most of us to stay close to home. On my daily allowed walk through a neighborhood within walking distance, I noticed the ways everyday life continues under these ongoing restrictions.

🏠 Quiet Streets, Closed Cafés
Typically, this neighborhood features cozy cafés that spill lively chatter onto the sidewalks. Now, most are shuttered, their wooden chairs stacked behind locked doors. A few are open only for takeout, offering brief signs of life as masked customers dash in and out for coffee or a pastry.

💊 Essential Stops Still Open
Pharmacies remain open, their windows lined with notices of health guidelines and updated operating hours. Small queues form outside at careful intervals—people wrapped in coats, braving the brisk March wind. It’s an almost solemn dance of spacing and caution, each person minding that invisible six-foot boundary.

🔒 Distance and Determination
Many storefronts have temporarily closed signs, and sidewalks feel wider without the usual bustle. In front of the shops that are still operational—mostly groceries and pharmacies—you’ll find markers on the ground, reminding everyone where to stand. Occasional waves and nods replace the casual neighborly greetings of yesteryear.

🌳 A Brief Escape Outdoors
Despite the restrictions, there’s some solace in stepping outside, taking in a little fresh air, and spotting the first hints of spring. Budding trees line the streets, providing a hopeful backdrop to this otherwise subdued scene. Even in masks, it’s possible to sense a collective exhale—people connecting with nature and with each other, however briefly.

A small glimpse of March 2021 life in lockdown, seen in a neighborhood where open doors are scarce, but a resilient spirit lingers in every quiet footstep.
