New school timings for Ramadan announced
Islamabad – The federal and provincial education departments have officially notified revised school timings for the holy month of Ramadan, aimed at easing the daily routine for students, teachers, and parents during fasting hours.
According to the notifications, schools across the country will operate on shorter schedules. In most provinces, single-shift schools will open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while double-shift institutions will close their morning sessions by noon and conduct afternoon classes for fewer hours than usual.
Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have issued nearly identical timings, with slight variations in start and closing hours depending on local weather conditions. In Balochistan, authorities have provided additional flexibility for rural schools, where long travel distances often make attendance difficult during fasting days.
Education officials say the decision was taken after consultations with school associations and parents. “The priority is to balance academic activity with the well-being of students observing fasts,” a senior officer from the Federal Education Ministry explained.
The new schedule will remain effective throughout Ramadan, after which regular timings will be restored. Parents have welcomed the move, though some educationists have cautioned that shorter class hours could affect curriculum completion if not managed carefully.
