Punjab CM Orders Removal of Mayo Hospital MS Over Complaints

Punjab Chief Minister has ordered the immediate removal of the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Mayo Hospital, Lahore, following multiple complaints regarding mismanagement and poor service delivery. The decision was announced after the CM’s surprise visit to the hospital, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions and patient care.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister noted serious lapses in cleanliness, overcrowding, and delayed medical attention for patients. Families of several patients reportedly complained about the unavailability of medicines, staff negligence, and lack of accountability in the hospital administration.

Officials confirmed that a new MS will be appointed soon, with clear directives to improve facilities, ensure discipline among staff, and provide timely treatment to patients. The CM stressed that hospitals are meant to serve the people, and negligence in healthcare will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Healthcare professionals and civil society activists have welcomed the step, saying it sends a strong message about accountability in public health institutions. However, they also called for long-term reforms to address systemic issues such as staff shortages, outdated equipment, and rising patient loads.

The Health Department has been instructed to submit a detailed report on Mayo Hospital’s shortcomings within a week and propose measures to upgrade its services.
