Pakistan Reports Two Polio Cases from KP, Tally Reaches 10
Pakistan has confirmed two new cases of polio from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), bringing the total number of reported cases in the country for 2025 to 10. Health officials emphasized the urgent need for continued vaccination drives and awareness campaigns to prevent further spread of the virus.
According to the National Emergency Operations Center for Polio, both new cases were reported from remote districts in KP where vaccination coverage has been historically low. The affected children are receiving treatment, and contact tracing efforts are underway to ensure the virus does not spread further.
Authorities have urged parents to vaccinate their children and cooperate with health teams during door-to-door campaigns. “Polio remains a serious threat to our children, and consistent immunization is the only way to eradicate it,” said a senior health official.
The World Health Organization and UNICEF continue to support Pakistan’s polio eradication program, providing technical assistance, vaccines, and funding for outreach initiatives. Despite significant progress over the years, health experts warn that any lapse in vaccination efforts could reverse hard-won gains.
Public health campaigns are being intensified in KP and other vulnerable regions, including awareness through media, mobile teams, and community engagement. Officials stressed that eradication of polio is achievable if every child is immunized and communities remain vigilant.
